The manufacture and decorative use of wire in Southern Africa dates back to the first millennium AD. Modernization brought telecommunications and the introduction of multi-colored plastic coated wire. Since the late 1960’s, Zulu night watchmen started weaving scraps around their traditional sticks. Today there is much variety and individual creative expression in the use of the wire. Wired, by David Arment and Marisa Fick-Jordaan, is the first publication to document the development of this transitional art form- from artifact to art- featuring the works of the most renowned contemporary weavers.

There are many ways you can support our efforts to bring help and hope to the children of South Africa. While we receive many generous offers to donate products, supplies and other items, the cost to ship these items to South Africa is often prohibitive. Therefore, we encourage monetary donations to help meet local needs.
