South African Lacrosse Project
The South African Lacrosse Project is a nonprofit organization that coordinates lacrosse programs in South Africa for at-risk youth and assists in the development and promotion of HIV prevention programs for orphans in South Africa.
Established by brothers Harrison and Kip Hart of Towson, Maryland, the South African Lacrosse Project (SALP) has grown into a full-scale youth development program. Though lacrosse education and training, SALP empowers at-risk youth by teaching teamwork and cooperation and helping them to recognize their full potential.
The South African Lacrosse Project operates camps during school holidays in July with the help of U.S. lacrosse players and coaches who volunteer their time to conduct the camp.
The Wilson Foundation is pleased to have partnered with the South African Lacrosse Project for its 2010 camp by providing financial support to offset camp expenses and by bringing volunteers to help lead the camp. Four members of Highland Park High School’s girls varsity lacrosse team and the assistant coach of SMU’s men’s lacrosse team helped The Wilson Foundation raise money for the 2010 camp and participated as volunteer coaches. All say the experience was one of the most memorable of their lives.
